Artist's Description
This painting--"Mary, Undoer of Knots"--was inspired by the painting by Johann Georg Schmidtner (c. 1700) which I used as a reference.
The painting was inspired by a meditation of St. Irenaeus who said "Eve, by her disobedience, tied the knot of disgrace for the human race; whereas Mary, by her obedience, undid it."
Many people have asked for Mary's help to undo the knots (which symbolize difficulties, struggles, problems) in their lives.
Here are some of the names of "Mary, Undoer of Knots" or "Mary, Untier of Knots" in different languages:
German : Maria Knotenloserin
French : Marie qui defait les Noeuds
Italian : Maria che Scioglie i Nodi
Polish : Maria Rozwiazujaca Supełki
Portuguese : Maria Desatadora dos Nos, Nossa Senhora Desatadora dos Nos
Spanish : Maria Desatanudos, Maria Desatadora de Nudos, Maria, la que Desata los Nudos
Hungarian : A csomokat feloldo Maria
About Sheila Diemert
I'm an artist from Kitchener, Ontario. I like to create art that is uplifting and positive--paintings that have meaning for the owners-- portraits of people they know and love, and of places theyve been to or hope to visit one day. I paint landscapes, portraits, florals, and still life. There is beauty everywhere--in the patterns in the fabric of a sari, in the textures on the bark of a tree, in the colours on the peel of an apple, in the light in a person's eyes. ...To see more of my artwork, visit my facebook page here or visit my website here
